This formal piece is based on a photograph of ears of wheat, but simplified to show the beauty of a simple shape.  The raised wheat ears themselves sparkle in any light, and look stunning in the sun.

The leaves and stems are worked with areas of couched Japanese gold thread, while the wheat ears are of bright check purl, laid over layers of felt to give shape and depth.  The 'whiskers' are of couched pearl purl.

Technical details

Silk satin ground, with couched metal thread, and couched and laid pearl and bright check check purl.

Diameter: 18 cm (7 in)
