This double-sided piece is inspired by the words of the second man on the Moon, Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin: "Beautiful.  Beautiful.  Magnificent desolation".

Worked on dove-grey silk satin, it represents the full Moon in a clear night sky.

The simple phrase that encapsulates the Moon so perfectly is hand-worked in a fittingly simple style, while on the reverse, a complex pattern of Celtic spirals gives an abstract vision of the Moon's cratered surface.

The letter outlines and the spiral pattern are worked in chain stitch in fine silver metallic thread, and the letters themselves are completed with split stitch.
