Some pieces defy classification. In this gallery are displayed individual embroidered works, showing Ruth's range as a textile artist, from contemporary free machine embroidery to exquisite hand embroidery in a classical style.

Inspired by images of a volcanic eruption, the bowl contrasts the vivid colours of molten lava with the dark shades of its drying crust. Spaces in the dark outer later of the bowl allow the hot colours to show through.
This parasol, with its unusual ogee-curved spokes, uses deigns inspired by the original Burmantofts tiles in what was once the First Class waiting room at Newcastle Central Station.
