This detailed landscape is of the striking Raby Castle, Co. Durham, and is based on a photograph of the castle at twilight.

The stitched panel is entirely hand embroidered on fine linen. The sky and the castle itself are worked in split stitch, as it allows subtle shading, with areas of defined colour outlined in double running stitch. The tree is worked in French knots, the the reeds of the lake in long and short stitch, worked freely.
