Inspired by the design and spirit of the book – a graphic novel retelling of the story of the battle of Thermopylae – this slip case uses tones of sepia brown and blood red. The helmet reflects images used on ancient Greek coins.

The background design is worked in free machine embroidery, used in a strongly linear way. The main motif, that of a highly stylised Greek helmet, is in hand-applied copper kid appliqué, padded with felt.

The hand-assembled slip case is fully lined with black silk satin, and museum quality conservation mount is used to form the box.
